Our Favorite Halloween Story and How To Make A Flannel Board

One of our favorite Halloween books is The Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything. We read this book day in and day out. It is a great book for repetition and even my two year old loves to repeat the different sounds and sayings.

I thought it would be fun to create some pictures for a flannel board so my children could interact with the story. I decided to check out the good ol' internet to see if there were any pictures to go along with the story before I spent a lot of time creating them. I found a great site with not only the pictures but a lot of accompanying games and activities.

Scarecrow Cutouts

We (Logan and I) colored the pictures and cut them out and then glued flannel on the back so we could play with them on the flannel board.

If you love this book as much as we do, please check out the site Making Learning Fun. I've used this site for other books.

If you are interested in making a flannel board, it's very simple.

You will need:

  • 1.5 yards of flannel
  • tape
  • foam board

1. Cover the front of the foam board with flannel.

2. On the backside, pull the flannel tight and start taping.

3. Use the front and do not let anyone see the backside!

I'm sure there is a more elegant way to make a flannel board, but this is my quick and dirty way. It only took me about 5 minutes. I like easy!
